STEPHANIE'S KITTEN REMPORTE LE BREEDERS' CUP FILLY AND MARE TURF (Gr1)

Stephanie's Kitten (Kitten's Joy) a nettement dominé le Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (Gr1), samedi à Keeneland. La future lauréate a navigué dans le sillage des animatrices. À mi-ligne droite, elle a produit un très bel effort coté corde, où un passage s’ouvrait. Stephanie's Kitten a alors rapidement pris le meilleur avant de facilement décrocher la victoire. Legatissimo (Danehill Dancer) a fini très vite, mais elle a démarré trop tard pour pouvoir inquiéter la gagnante. Elle se classe deuxième.

Après avoir été bousculée en sortant des boîtes, Queen's Jewel (Pivotal) n’a pas été très heureuse pendant le parcours. Elle a contourné le peloton en épaisseur. La représentante de Wertheimer & Frère décroche une bonne troisième place, après avoir fourni un très bel effort.

Maxime Guyon, le jockey de Queen's Jewel, a expliqué au micro d’Equidia : « Je l’ai montée pour elle. Ce n’était pas facile avec ces tournants très serrés. La pouliche a fait une belle ligne droite. Au départ j’ai dû la reprendre et sur ce type de parcours, les chevaux qui ont une grande action ont besoin de temps pour se rééquilibrer. »

TEPIN GAGNE AVEC LA MANIÈRE LE BREEDERS' CUP MILE (Gr1)

Tepin (Bernstein) s’est imposée avec la manière dans le Breeders' Cup Mile (Gr1), samedi à Keeneland. Elle a évolué dans le sillage de l’animateur Obviously (Choisir), avant de nettement créer la différence à mi-ligne droite. La pouliche s’impose très facilement, avec une longueur d’avance. Mondialiste (Galileo), un élève de Wertheimer & Frère, se classe deuxième, après avoir fini très vite. Ce fils d’Occupandiste (Kaldoun) est l’une des belles impressions de la journée. Grand Arch (Arch) décroche la troisième place.

Aucun des quatre concurrents français de l’épreuve n’a pu s’adapter au profil particulier de la piste.

FOUND PRIVE GOLDEN HORN DU DOUBLÉ ARC-BREEDERS’ CUP TURF

Golden Horn (Cape Cross) est passé tout près d’un exploit inédit, celui de remporter le Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe et le Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf. Mais Found (Galileo), qui l’a suivi comme son ombre pendant le parcours, est venue arracher la victoire dans les dernières foulées. La pouliche a pourtant connu cinq semaines très chargées : elle a en effet couru l’Arc puis les Champion Stakes avant de s’envoler pour le Kentucky. Aidan O’Brien signe son deuxième succès lors de cette édition du Breeders’ Cup.

Frankie Dettori a expliqué que le terrain était trop souple pour son cheval, qui n’avait pas son action habituelle.

Pour la dernière sortie de sa carrière, American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) a réalisé une vraie démonstration en s’imposant de bout en bout, sous les ovations du public, dans le Breeders’ Cup Classic (Gr1). American Pharoah était le premier gagnant de Triple Couronne à pouvoir s’imposer dans le Classic : il n’a pas manqué son rendez-vous avec l’histoire ! Effinex (Mineshaft) est deuxième à distance, devant Honor Code (A.P. Indy) qui était encore dernier à mi-parcours. Gleneagles (Galileo) n’a jamais pu se montrer menaçant.

“An everlasting credit to the sport.” Those words from Keeneland track announcer Kurt Becker as American Pharoah (c, 3, Pioneerof the Nile–Littleprincessemma, by Yankee Gentleman) closed out his career on top, smashing the field in Saturday’s GI Breeders’ Cup Classic by a solid six lengths to cap Breeders’ Cup weekend at Keeneland.

With the scratches first of Beholder (Henny Hughes) and of Smooth Roller (Hard Spun) early Saturday, American Pharoah loomed the controlling speed and off without incident from the four hole and had token pressure from Effinex (Mineshaft) and a closer-than-usual Tonalist (Tapit) through an opening quarter-mile in :23.99. With the Triple Crown hero galloping along effortlessly, Effinex tried to turn up the heat and they hit the half-mile marker in 1:11 2/5.


American Pharoah was given a bit more rein on the turn and he began to lengthen his stride further still and the result was really not in doubt when they reached the head of the stretch.

Effinex plugged away gamely and Honor Code (A.P. Indy) made belated progress from the back of the field, but the Zayat runner never broke a sweat as he eclipsed the $8-million mark in career earnings.

American Pharoah is set to enter stud at Ashford Stud a handful of furlongs from Keeneland. Lifetime Record: 11-9-1-0. O/B-Zayat Stables (KY). T-Bob Baffert.
