The tiger is the largest member of the felid (cat) family. They sport long, thick reddish coats with white bellies and white and black tails. Their heads, bodies, tails and limbs have narrow black, brown or gray stripes. There were once nine subspecies of tigers: Bengal, Siberian, Indochinese, South Chinese, Sumatran, Malayan, Caspian, Javan and Bali. Of these, the last three are extinct, one is extinct in the wild, and the rest are endangered. Like Amazing world of Wildlife for more stunning photography

OPAL GALAXY | #Geology

Opalville Mine
Queensland, Australia
this is one of the largest (2765 carats) and finest quality boulder opals ever mined. This opal is unique not only for its size but also for its quality---every color of the spectrum is visible which is extremely rare, even in the finest of opals.

ElephantVoices

" Every picture tells a story it is said. And what does this one tell? Look closely at the details and you can learn a lot. First, this is a male elephant. You can tell by his rounded forehead, his thick tusks and, well, by his genitals. Second he is in musth. You can tell by his swollen and secreting temporal glands (located behind the eye) and, if you had a high resolution photograph by his wet genitals (from dribbling urine as an announcement of his aggressive and sexual state). Third this elephant is extremely close to the photographer (you can tell by the perspective and distortion caused by the wide angle lens). Fourth, this elephant is threatening the photographer. Notice how the lower portion of his ear is pressed in against his shoulder creating a ridge and a shadow across his ear. This is called Ear-Folding and it is a threat used frequently by males in musth toward other males - or a photographer, in this case.

Just to say, we didn't go looking for trouble. He came over of his own free will because he wanted everyone to know that he was in musth and how big and strong and tough he was. He also decided to pick on us because he had just been "seen off" by a higher ranking musth male and needed to have someone else to push around. It is called Redirected Aggression and you can be sure that if you are observing elephants and something happens in the group - it will always be your fault! "
